What is Your Pace of Life?

The Pace

I am reading a book called, “On Writing — A Memoir of the Craft” by Stephen King. Today I read something like this, “Pace is the speed at which your narrative unfolds.”

I think Stephen King is really good at giving advice related to writing as far as I have read this book I can tell this pretty confidently but I don’t know How he applies this into his own books as I haven’t read any other fiction book by this author and “On Writing” is the first non-fiction book I am reading of this author.

In the above line about Pace Stephen is talking about the pace of a story. But in my mind, I am right now thinking about How it can be applied to life. I mean life has its own pace, for some people, it is going fast and for some, it is like the speed of a turtle. But most important thing is that what we called time is moving at the same speed, no matter if you are rich or poor, healthy or not, beautiful or not, man or woman, human or animal, whether you want it to go fast or want it just stops there for sometimes but it never listens to you, right? And which is really great by the way.

The moon is moving around the earth at some speed and the earth is moving around the sun at some speed, the sun is also moving around the center of our galaxy.

That speed at which everything is moving is called pace and everyone has their own pace even space objects just like human beings on earth. If we break down the whole cycle of birth to death in the smallest unit in which we can do something is I think a day, 24 hours. We all have 24 hours, right? even if you are living in maybe Norway or the north pole (which can be a little tough though to live, maybe, as I personally have no experience of living there but I read stories about those places and that’s a great way to learn by the way!)

So if we apply that pacing concept here in the lives of people and ask questions related to that, The main question would be, “What is your pace of life?” I mean we all have the same time but still why are different people have different paces of life?

And by the way, by asking this question if you do get the answer regarding your pace of life, the next question is awaiting you, “Are you happy with the pace of your life?” Let’s say your pace of life is fast and things are just happening to you like a 100 KM/hour car is going to its destination. At this pace maybe you are achieving lots of things in a very short amount of time. But just take a halt somewhere near the tea stall or garden maybe and think for a while on this, “Are you really happy?” And if your answer is big YES then go back to your car and start the engine and keep going, keep moving, no worries but if your answer is small yes or maybe yes or you are unable to decide, you can just roam there for a while and introspect on this and maybe while roaming around you can find your answer.

For people, if things are going just too slow like at the speed of the cycle, maybe then you can consider going a little fast but if you are happy with the slow pace of your life then all is good. You can enjoy the slow ride. There is nothing wrong with that.

My realization about the pace of life is simple, “No one can maintain the same pace of life for more than some time!” I mean we all are going to have varied pace as roads of life are sometimes slippery, sometimes straight and smooth enough, sometimes we all have slopes and we find hard to go up, sometimes roads have too many turns and twist but it is okay I think as roads are not going to be in our hand but the steering of our car will always be in our hands. So don’t try to control what is not in your hand, just focus on the steering and master that. With steering in your hand according to the situation, you can change the pace as you want but not always, as situations will change and it may not unfold the way you want them to.

Most of the time the pace of your life will be decided by outside things but you have to just be conscious and take control. Decide your own pace at which you can feel the breeze passing through your cheeks and gently stroking maybe once in a while. Decide your pace at which you can enjoy the thunderstorms and sometimes if you want to take a break to bathe in rain then why not? Go ahead, enjoy! If you are feeling that the Sun is shining too bright and maybe hitting you with strong rays then you can drive faster in the summertime.

You just always have to remember that, You are driving the car.

So the final thing I have to say on this is, “Do not compare your pace of life with others!” I think this, I don’t have to explain as you are already wise enough to understand this, right?

“Get busy living or get busy dying.”
